Your Children Are Out of School for the Summer… What Do You Do Now? Part 1

There are great local camps, reading programs, activities, and projects to keep your kiddos of all ages entertained for the summer.

Throughout the next few weeks, I will be posting some of my favorites that are available this summer and in your area. Don’t forget to keep checking back, so you can collect all of the helpful information.

First up are some of my favorite camps in the area. They are not only fun and affordable, but also provide useful tools and life skills. The best part is that the kids are having so much fun, that they don’t realize they are learning skills to apply to their future!

My favorite places for camps and classes are through your local Parks and Recreation departments. It is a one-stop shop. In addition, you find affordable, diverse classes for all ages, and your fees benefit your local community centers. It allows them to update or build new facilities for your community. It is also reassuring to know that the main instructors have gone through background checks and have provided credit references, before they are listed in the guides and centers!

I am going to start with teen camps, because they are the hardest to find. My suggestions for teens are as follows.

  • Preparing for a Career & Moving Out on Your Own
  • Etiquette & Life Skills
  • Modeling
  • Babysitting / CPR / First Aid
  • Video Game Design
  • Film Making
  • Sports
  • Art
  • Dance
  • Music & Voice

All of the camps listed above, can be found in Frisco at http://www.friscofun.org, and in McKinney at http://www.mckinneytexas.org, through their Parks and Recreation departments. If you have any trouble registering online, do not hesitate to call them for assistance.

Camps start next week, so you want to register as soon as possible to get a spot! For example, the “Preparing for a Career & Moving Out on Your Own” camp starts June 13 in McKinney, and June 20 in Frisco!

For younger kids, there are some wonderful camps offered starting at age four.

  • Etiquette & Life Skills
  • Modeling
  • CPR / First Aid
  • Lego Engineering
  • Film Making
  • Sports
  • Art
  • Dance
  • Music
  • Science
  • Computers
  • Cooking

These too can be found in Frisco at http://www.friscofun.org, and in McKinney at http://www.mckinneytexas.org, through their Parks and Recreation departments.

Please check back soon for more helpful information on summer activities and projects to do with your kids.
