The Younger Generation Chorus caps a holiday season of song with On This Shining Night, a community benefit concert at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 16 at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 1919 Independence Parkway, in Plano. Join YG for highlights from its winter performance season plus carols for all and even a visit from Santa. Admission to concert is a donation of a new, unwrapped toy to go to the Collin County Children’s Advocacy Center.
“While our annual tours are the pinnacle of our season and rightfully hold a pivotal spot for the children, giving back to the community at our holiday concert is an important part of what Younger Generation is all about,” says Tenesa Rasmussen, artistic director of YG.
Younger Generation will present a second community service holiday program for Methodist Richardson Medical Center during the week of Christmas.
The holiday concert caps a busy fall and winter season for the children’s chorus, which started during November with an acclaimed performance of Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana with the Plano Symphony Orchestra, the Plano Civic Chorus and the Richland College Chamber Singers. Younger Generation’s season continues with performances at Dickens in Historic Downtown Plano the evening of Friday, Dec. 2; Heritage Farmstead’s Lantern Light holiday celebration Saturday, Dec. 3; Home for the Holidays with the Plano Symphony Orchestra and the Plano Civic Chorus on Saturday and Sunday Dec. 17 and 18; and Collin County Ballet Theatre’s The Nutcracker with the Plano Symphony Orchestra on Dec. 21, 22 and 23.
“Collin County Ballet Theatre is excited to have Younger Generation Chorus of Plano joining us again this year, in addition to our long association with the Plano Symphony Orchestra, to present The Nutcracker at the Eisemann Center,” says Kirt Hathaway, CCBT artistic director. “We are looking forward to Collin County’s three premier performing arts groups spreading holiday cheers together.”
“I have had the privilege of collaborating with the Younger Generation Chorus several times,” says Maestro Hector Guzman, music director of the Plano Symphony Orchestra. “They are an outstanding choir, with excellent discipline and manners. They are always thoroughly prepared, lovingly coached and they seem to always enjoy what they do. I look forward to many fruitful performance opportunities in the near future.”
