Young Actors Guild Presents ‘Get Bill Shakespeare Off The Stage’ This Weekend

What happens when a high school drama teacher retires and the young, idealistic drama teacher who takes his place brings new ideas to the school?  New ideas, like replacing the annual musical with a staged collection of Shakespearian scenes, take shape. Plans are hatched and the fun begins.

McKinney’s own Young Actors Guild (YAG) presents “Get Bill Shakespeare Off the Stage” at the McKinney Performing Arts Center on the historic square in downtown McKinney.  Evening performances are at 7:30 Friday, October 25 and Saturday, October 26.  Matinee performances are at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, October 26 and Sunday, October 27.

This lively comedy is directed by YAG’s artistic director, Kyle Januszewski and features local teen talent.  Cast members are:  Lizzee Love (Fran Caldwell), Ian Kirkpatrick (Ed Summers), Sara Tamimi (Betty Stockton), Jenna Ferguson (Marla Fredricks), Preston Fout (Ralph Overmire), Morgan Evans (Sherrie Fredricks), Dylan Thierry (Tim Overmire), Bear Bond (Ray), Mkaylia Howard Vaughn (Phyllis), Jake Ryan Scott (Mickey), Jimmy Teeling (Tony), Grace Bond (Donna), Abigail Evans (Gina), Madison McLaughlin (Joan), Bella Gonzales (Cassie) and Rachel Carnegie (Beth).

Crew members are:  Jacob Correll (Producer), Micah Ammons (Asst. Director and Stage Manager), Kenneth McCalpin (Asst. Stage Manager), Vinchenzo “Vinny” Locasio (Special Guest Light Designer), Cameron Slate (Light Board), Reid McCalpin (Sound Operator), and Lindsey Love (Props Master).  Stage Hands are Isabel Thierry, Mackenzie Slate, Ava Salde, Michelle Dulin, Christina Sexton and Hope Galyon.

Join YAG’s cast and crew at one of the performances to see how the new drama teacher’s enthusiasm for Shakespeare is met with resistance from the students and a plan to sabotage the production results.  The students and new teacher humorously develop a better understanding of each other and the teens eventually appreciate the same Shakespeare they had wanted to get off the stage.

Tickets are $11 for adults, $7.50 for students and $5 for YAG members and available by visiting and clicking on “Events.”  Or, call McKinney Performing Arts Center’s box office at 214-544-4630.
