FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
XCEL Sport Science and The Athlete Watch Announce Partnership
Lexington, KY / McKinney, TX – July 20, 2011
A Pro-Active Approach to College Recruiting
XCEL Sport Science & Fitness, Central Kentucky’s only elite level training facility, is teaming up with McKinney-based The Athlete Watch (TAW), a new college-recruiting tool designed for high school student-athletes of all sports who are looking to play at the next level.
XCEL Sport Science & Fitness (formerly know as the HIT Center) has recently undergone a change in ownership. The new owners, Jeremy Armstrong and Dallas Robinson have one simple mission at XCEL – to provide Central Kentucky with an unparalleled commitment to training the complete athlete through an applied, scientific approach to sports performance and fitness while giving each athlete an extraordinary advantage to XCEL on and off the field. “Our partnership with The Athlete Watch allows us to provide not only our current athletes, but all athletes in the area a valuable tool in the recruiting process,” says Armstrong. “Dallas and I truly believe in the concept behind TAW. We are honored to be a designated testing site and to be mentioned in the same sentence as one of the premier facilities of its kind in the country, the Michael Johnson Performance Center.”
After recent success launching at the Michael Johnson Performance Center in McKinney, Texas, The Athlete Watch, a North Texas based company, has been looking to expand to other training facilities around the U.S. “The problem with traditional college recruiting is the student-athlete has to wait on the university to contact them…that is a big problem, especially if you are not getting recruited,” says Johnny Quinn, Founder and President of The Athlete Watch. “Just like a student-athlete is responsible for lifting weights, running and conditioning, they are also responsible for their recruiting process.”
As part of the partnership, TAW will provide each high school student-athlete a highly functional Student-Athlete Profile (packages begin at $97) containing up-to-date academic, athletic, personal information, sport action pictures and the option for video content. Video content is where XCEL comes in. All student-athletes who choose the video content will have an opportunity through XCEL to be filmed on location in sport specific tests and drills which will be put together in what they call a skills tape. “Our goal at TAW is to provide first class film for our student-athletes to send out to college coaches,” says Quinn. “We are thrilled to work with XCEL and provide a platform helping the student-athletes in Central Kentucky who have the dreams, desires and goals to play their sport at the next level!”
When it comes to dreams of playing at the next level, Johnny Quinn is the right guy. “I led the state of Texas in receptions my senior year in high school and did not get a scholarship until two days before signing day!” says the energetic Quinn. “No one knew about me until my mom and I picked up the phone and started calling universities and taking a pro-active approach.” Quinn received his only Division I scholarship to the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas. At UNT, Johnny was apart of three Conference Championships, become the school’s All-Time Leading Receiver, and will be inducted in the North Texas Hall of Fame this year.
“I am so blessed to have the opportunity that I did at North Texas. My passion for The Athlete Watch is the same passion I live by – if you want something done right, do it yourself!”
