The McKinney chapters of the Sons and Daughters of the American Revolution are bringing together city and county leaders as well as a member of the legendary WWII Tuskegee Airmen in recognition of the 63rd Armed Forces Day.
The public invited to attend the Armed Forces Day program and the 6th Annual Honor Our Flag, Our Military and Our Veterans ceremony to be held on Saturday May 18 at 2:00pm at the St Gabriel’s Catholic Church meeting hall located at 100 St Gabriel Way, McKinney, TX. Dignitaries will include Lt. Calvin Spann of the Tuskegee Airmen, Collin County Commissioner Matt Shaheen (Precinct 1), and Daughters of the American Revolution Texas State Regent, Mrs. Pamela Wright. TSB’s own Bryan Criswell will be inducted as a new member of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) as part of the program. The event continues to grow each year with more than three hundred people expected.
The Collin County Commissioners Court will honor veterans and active duty military personnel with the presentation of a proclamation. The SAR will post the flags and oversee the proper disposal of old tattered and torn flags to a backdrop of period music from the Heritage Brass fife and drum corps. “We are honored to bring recognition to our hometown heroes, like our ancestors did before us,” said Lloyd Lietz, President, McKinney Chapter, SAR.
Armed Forces Day was first observed in May 1950 to honor Americans serving in the five U.S. military branches, the U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Air Force and U.S. Coast Guard, following the consolidation of the military services in the U.S. Department of Defense.
