Three time state girls soccer champion coach and assistant campus athletic coordinator for McKinney Boyd High School, Jimmie Lankford, has resigned, effective Friday, June 17 to take a position as Athletic Director and head boys soccer coach in Cortez, Colorado, in order to be closer to family.
Lankford, who coached the 2006 McKinney North girls’ soccer team to a Class 4A state championship, also took two more girls’ soccer teams to win state titles during his tenure as head coach at Boyd High School. In 2008, the Lady Broncos defeated Wichita Falls Rider, 3-1, in the Class 4A state title game. This year, the girls won a tough 1-0 battle in over-time, defeating Colleyville Heritage in the Class 5A state championship game.
Shawn Pratt, McKinney ISD Athletic Director said, “I’m very disappointed that we are losing Jimmie, but I admire his decision to be closer to family. He was good for the kids and good for soccer and we will miss him greatly.”
Lankford could not be reached for comment.
