McKinney’s economy got a boost in the job creation department this week as WinCo Foods, well-known for its discount grocery prices in the northwest, opened two stores in Texas for the first time on Thursday, one in Fort Worth and the other right here in McKinney at University Dr. and North Graves St.
Legions of fans have been anxious about WinCo’s debut for months and some were treated to a private open house on Wednesday before the store opened to the public on Thursday, Feb. 6, 2013.
Each store is owned by the employees who work there and is open 24 hours. According to WinCoFoods.com, “eligible employees have a chance to own the company and build their future as well as the company’s. That’s local pride and ownership at each of our stores.”
Know before you go!
In upholding its promise to be the “supermarket low price leader,” WinCo does not accept credit cards, although debit cards, cash and checks can be used. Also, don’t expect any bagging or carry out service at the check out aisle. WinCo offers paper, plastic and reusable options but customers are expected to “bag their own savings.”
WinCo stores do not have pharmacies but standard over-the-counter health products are available.
