McKinney area schools and school children will be the big winners again at the annual 5K and 1-Mile Fun Run of Crape Myrtle Trails of McKinney, set for Saturday, Nov. 23. Crape Myrtle Trails Board members presented contributions to the athletic departments of all schools in the McKinney Independent School District this week and promised a repeat of special awards to schools with the biggest turnouts for the race.

Again this year, area schools will compete for trophies based on participant turnout. Students from winning schools will see their principals or athletic directors Kiss a Pig. Medals will be awarded for fastest speeds in multiple age divisions, from young to old. Participants will enjoy a party atmosphere in “Myrtle Village” both before and after the race. Scheduled entertainment includes a petting zoo, face painter, obstacle course, warm-up exercises, plus Chicken Dances and other fun afterwards.

Participants can register in advance (at reduced fees) at www.crapemyrtletrails.org. Race Day registration begins at 7:30 a.m. in front of Cooper Fitness Center in Craig Ranch, 7910 Collin McKinney Pkwy in McKinney. The first race leaves the gate at 8:30 a.m. The race is directed and timed by Racing Systems through Run-On! of McKinney.
