Reader Speaks Out-
I heard some BUZZ that MPAC, McKinney Performing Art Center is being considered to leased out to a private group Monday-Friday, thus closing the building to the public and McKinney citizens. I realize that MPAC is running at a deficit, as are most public arts facilities lately, but don’t you think that the people who paid for the renovation and upkeep of the building should have a say as what to do with its future? Do you want to make a profit or do you want to serve the community. Perhaps renting out spaces to small bussinesses, arts groups and community groups at a resonable rate would keep the building full and operating every day.
I love this historic building and would hate to see it locked-up and private. We already lost the beautiful historic Collin County Prison. What’s next? Maybe close up the libraries and rent out the space? Come-on!
