Local varsity volleyball teams finished competing in three-day weekend tournaments Saturday across the area.
McKinney North Volleyball placed second in the diamond bracket at the Frisco ISD tournament this weekend. The Lady Bulldogs played three matches Saturday. Mesquite Poteet defeated North 3-1 in the championship, winning 25-13, 20-25, 22-25, 18-25. North defeated Dunbar 3-0, winning 25-17, 25-18, 25-19; and North defeated Conrad 3-0, winning 25-14, 25-13, 25-6.
McKinney Boyd finished in fifth place out of 84 teams in the Pearland Tournament. Drew Darling and Megan Mollett made the All-Tournament team.Organizers used a points system based on games and matches won, etc., in determining the order of finish. The Lady Broncos won seven out of eight matches during the weekend, knocking off Klein Collins, Lutheran South and Montgomery on Thursday, Foster and New Braunfels on Friday, and Kingwood and San Antonio Johnson on Saturday. Their only loss was to College Park on Friday. On the final day, the state’s eighth-ranked 5A Lady Broncos defeated Kingwood 23-25, 25-17, 25-10; and San Antonio Johnson 22-25, 25-23, 25-20. “I’m really proud of the girls,” said Boyd coach Kelly Quinn, who pointed out that SA Johnson is one of the best teams in the state.
