Weekend Buzz: The `Spring is So Close You Can Feel It’ Edition

Here are some entertainment options for this weekend and beyond, from the McKinney Convention & Visitors Bureau:

Clocks Spring Forward: Move your clocks ahead one hour this weekend – official time change in Texas is 2 a.m. Sunday.

McKinney Connects Town Hall (Thursday): Learn more about city services and programs and interact with city staff members during a meet and greet with city departments and City Council. The community meetings are held to provide residents with information and updates on pressing city issues in an interactive format. During this meeting, attendees have the chance to win a drawing for tickets to an upcoming Dallas Mavericks game. 6-8 p.m. at McKinney High School,  1400 Wilson Creek Pkwy.

Owl Prowl Night Hike (Saturday): Bring the whole family to see a live owl presentation. Then, stay for a guided night hike on our sanctuary trails. If you’ve ever been on a hike and the sun set before you finished, you know that experiencing a trail at night can be a completely different experience from a day hike.6:30-9:15 p.m. at the Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary. $19 non-members; $16 members. Pre-registrationrequired for all night hikes.

world wide widowWorld Wide Widow (Friday-Saturday): McKinney Repertory Theatre presents the winner of their new play competition. Scott’s mother spends way too much time at his home since his dad passed away. Scott and his wife, Beth, decide that getting his mom a computer will help keep her occupied at home, but their plan backfires in a big way with hilarious consequences! 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday at McKinney Performing Arts Center. (Continues next weekend.) $17 for adults; discounts for students and seniors.

Second Saturday: 

McKinney’s downtown art galleries host Meet-the-Artist receptions from 7-10 p.m. Below are the artists featured. (Many downtown businesses are open late as well.)
  • Garret Art Gallery: Local artists’ work is featured. 111 E. Virginia.
  • Orisons Art & Framing: Featured are six artists whose work explores their media with fresh insights and bold expression: Austin McKinney, Hannah Smith, Desmond Blair, Harry Korshak, Richard Rukus and Richard Miller.110 E. Louisiana.
  • Imaging on the Square: Local artists.109 S. Tennessee.
