The McKinney Convention & Visitors Bureau have submitted their recommendations for this weekend’s entertainment in McKinney:
Organ & Silent `Wings’ (Saturday): Step back in time to watch the 1927 silent movie classic, “Wings,” which was the first movie to win an Academy Award for Best Picture when the Oscars originated in 1929. Even in today’s world of digital magic, the aerial combat scenes in this movie are considered stellar by a new generation of critics who have re-discovered this film classic. Add the thundering notes of a theatrical pipe organ and the experience is unforgettable. Playing in the Courtroom Theater of the McKinney Performing Arts Center, 111 N. Tennessee, starting at 7:30 p.m. Adult tickets for the event are $12 in advance, or $14 at the door. Kids’ tickets are priced at $5 in advance, or $7 at the door. Seniors over 65 are admitted free, but tickets are required. Call (214) 544-4630 or get tickets online.
Dinosaurs Live (Final Weekend): T-Rex and his pals will be leaving The Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary after this weekend. If you haven’t yet had the chance to see them (or if your kids or grandkids want to see them one more time), this is the weekend to go to The Heard. Also check out the educational pioneer village and the Animals of the World exhibit.
Coffee With the Cops (Friday): The McKinney Police Department invites residents for casual conversation over a cup of coffee on Friday, Jan. 31, at Benny’s Bagels, 1500 W. Eldorado Pkwy. from 7:30 to 9 a.m. This event provides a unique opportunity for community members to ask questions and learn more about the Police Department. For more information, call 972-547-2795.
