Weekend Buzz: Pumpkins, Ghosts and Making a Difference

It’s the weekend and there are a plethora of family activities in McKinney coming up to enjoy …

Get Bill Shakespeare Off The Stage (Friday-Sunday): A new drama teacher wants to replace the annual musical with Shakespeare – much to the dismay of the students, their parents and even the school board that warns her to ‘Get Bill Shakespeare Off the Stage!’ McKinney Repertory Theatre’s Young Actors Guild presents this exciting show. At McKinney Performing ARts Center, Friday-Saturday, 7:30 p.m., and Saturday-Sunday, 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $12 adults; $8 students; $6 YAG members and are available online.

large_Make_A_Difference_Day_018Make a Difference Day (Saturday): Take part in one of many volunteer events around town. Headed up by Volunteer McKinney, this annual event truly makes a difference for so many non-profit organizations in McKinney who benefit from the extra hands and volunteer hours of people helping them complete any number of activities including painting, planting, cleaning up, and assembling various projects. Pumpkinville (Thursday, Oct. 31): Pick out your family’s perfect pumpkins for Halloween, play in the hay maze, go on a hay ride, decorate a pumpkin, and even bring a picnic lunch to enjoy the beautiful weather on the Pumpkinville grounds. Mondays through Saturdays, 9:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m.; Sundays, 1:30-5 p.m. FREE admission and activities. Pumpkin sales benefit McKinney Christian Academy. Lifetime Fitness Esprit de She Duathlon (Saturday): Women’s event, where participants run-bike-run route through boutique-lined streets and peaceful country roads. 8:30 a.m. at parking lot at Davis and Tennessee.

ghost walkLegends of McKinney Ghost Walk (Saturday): Presented by Chestnut Square Historic Village, ticket booklets provide maps of the sites and storytellers at each site share the legends!  Use your ticket booklet to map out your route with stops in between for fun  and food. Night of the event, ticket booklets and wrist bands are available at Chestnut Square and the McKinney Performing Arts Center.  6-10 p.m.
