Weekend Buzz: Happy Hounds, Scary Dinosaurs, Funny Females

The McKinney Convention & Visitors Bureau offer suggestions for weekend entertainment around town.

Four Funny Females (Saturday): They’re BAAACCK! The Four Funny Females open their 8th season at the McKinney Performing Arts Center, offering a “feel good” evening of clean comedy, laughter and community for the Ultimate Girls Night Out. (Guys are welcome, too, of course!)  Comediennes Laura Bartlett (who doubles as the group’s producer), Jodi Hadsell, Sherry Belle, and headliner Linda Stogner take the stage Saturdaynight in the Courtroom Theater. Tickets are $20 and are available online or at the MPAC ticket office (214-544-4630, 111 N. Tennessee). Show starts at 8 p.m.

Dinosaurs Live (Through Feb. 2): T-Rex and his pals’ 2013-14 season at The Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary is about to end. With just a week left to see these life-sized moving, roaring beasts, there is still time to visit the 289-acre sanctuary and explore the nature trails. Also onsite is an educational pioneer village for kids. 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

Happy Hounds Dog Agility Trials (Saturday-Sunday): Watch trained agility dogs run through obstacle courses (pictured at top), all in pursuit of the fastest time. Spectators attend free; please leave your own dogs at home, as only registered agility dogs are allowed in the venue. Snacks are available for purchase at at the concession stand. Competition runs all day Saturday and Sunday at Myers Park Show Barn, 7117 CR 166.

New Year, New You Health Fair (Saturday): 97.5 KLAK hosts a blood drive and health-living expo to increase health awareness through screenings, activities, materials, demonstrations and information directly from local providers. McKinney Performing Arts Center, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. FREE!
