The McKinney Convention & Visitors Center lets us know what’s happening this weekend in McKinney. Take the family and enjoy:
Yesterday & Today Fashion Show (Saturday): The Heritage Guild of Collin County (in association with Chestnut Square) presents its annual vintage fashion show and tea luncheon featuring fashions from 1850-1930 and 2014 styles from downtown merchants. Enjoy soup, salad, chicken salad on croissant and dessert along with hot tea, iced tea and coffee. At the Grand Hotel Ballroom, 114 W. Krewe of Barkus (Sunday): Patterned after the legendary Krewe of Barkus parade in New Orleans, this McKinney event features a parade, costume contest, vendor booths and Pawty in the Park. This year, pooches and their families are encouraged to celebrate the fads, fashion, music, and entertainment of the ’50s, ’60s, ’70s, and ’80s. Free family activities start at 12:30 p.m. Sunday at Mitchell Park, just west of the Historic Downtown. The parade begins at 2 p.m. (Event T-shirts are available at the Made in McKinney Store in the MCVB Visitors Center, 200 W. Virginia.)
Model T Driving Class (Saturday): Learn how to start and drive a Model T at the Collin County Farm Museum at Myers Park. This is the first of two Saturday classes, noon-3 p.m., when participants learn about the car and how to start it. (TheMarch 8 class includes getting behind the wheel and driving.) Side By Side By Sondheim (Saturday-Sunday): This show is a prelude to McKinney Summer Musical’s July production of “Footloose.” From “Comedy Tonight” to “Send in the Clowns,” the songs in the highly acclaimed musical revue, Side by Side by Sondheim, are snapshots of the insight, sophistication, heart, wit, and genius of the music theater master, Stephen Sondheim.
