Free Christmas Concert (Friday): Let the snowflakes glisten while you relax and listen to your McKinney Community Band spread holiday cheer at Christ Fellowship Church in McKinney on Friday, Dec. 13, at 7:30 p.m. Pre-show fun starts at 6:45 p.m. when kids can pose for photos with Santa and the church coffee shop will be open for purchase of hot chocolate and other holiday goodies. Krakatuk (Friday): This prequel to the Nutcracker story keeps tradition alive with a new twist that includes E.T.A. Hoffmann’s original story of how a boy becomes an enchanted piece of kitchenware. Full of Kings, Queens, mice and princesses in distress, Krakatuk is a rollicking answer to all of your Nutcracker questions and a perfect introduction to ballet. Friday at McKinney Performing Arts Center, 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $12 for adults; $7 for students/seniors and are available by calling 214-544-4630 or at the event.
Holiday Trail of Lights (Saturday): Bundle up your family, get out of the house, and experience the most unique holiday lighting display in North Texas. Thousands of lights, many synchronized to holiday music, decorate a half mile Heard nature trail. Hot beverages and treats will be available to purchase and enjoy. Have a photo taken by the professionals at Clix Photography with Father Christmas and Mother Nature in a festive setting. Listen to live holiday music in the Heard outdoor amphitheater and watch for strolling carolers. Adults $9, Child age 3-12 $6, Child 2 & under FREE. Admission includes free parking. Parade of Lights (Saturday): Come out and see all of the beautifully decorated and lighted floats (pictured at top) during this 14th annual parade celebrating the “Twelve Days of Christmas.” Santa Claus will again be enjoying the festivities with us. Come to downtown to celebrate what makes McKinney a truly unique place to be. Event starts at 6:30 p.m. Saturday around the downtown square.
Gingerbread For Habitat (Saturday): Be part of a fun, sugar-infused tradition as Trinity Presbyterian Church (5871 W. Virginia) hosts the 8th annual Gingerbread for Humanity event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Dec. 14. Opt for a take-home gingerbread kit, a fully assembled gingerbread house with frosting and candy for decorating. Or, attend the event and receive fully-assembled gingerbread houses ready to decorate, icing, tons of candy trimmings in a candy buffet. Mrs. Claus will be on hand for free photos.
Turtle Creek Chorale (Saturday): Experience the magic of the season asTurtle Creek Chorale shares memories and music in DecemberSong, which will feature the season’s most beautiful holiday music coupled with humorous moments to make you smile. Tickets for each performances – at 2:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. – are $30 main floor and $20 for balcony. Discounts are available for students, seniors & TCC members.
