Volunteer McKinney Center offers chances to get involved in your community this week.
–Nature Preserve Steward. Oak Point Park and Arbor Hills Park in Plano are seeking volunteers to walk the trails, answer patron questions about the park, explain and enforce park rules in a diplomatic manner, and provide feedback to park personnel. More details can be found on the VMC web site under “Updated Listings.” This is a great opportunity for anyone who enjoys being outdoors.
–Math Tutors. Tuesday evenings at Harrington Library in Plano will find volunteer tutors helping approximately 50 students with their math homework. You are invited to join the volunteer tutors if you have strong math skills, can interact with students of varying grade levels, are at least 16 years old, and can commit to one evening a week through December 13. For additional information, go to the VMC web site and click on “Math Tutors Needed . . .”
–Choose Your Project! McKinney Make a Difference Day, scheduled for Saturday, October 22 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30p.m., still has projects needing volunteers. The McKinney Family YMCA needs volunteers to do maintenance on playground equipment and also to make thank-you notes. The Heard Natural Science Museum and Wildlife Sanctuary is seeking weeding and gardening help in the botanical garden. These projects and others on the list are great for groups. Go to the VMC web site, click on McKinney Make a Difference Day “View Projects,” browse the list of available projects, and then register. Lunch is provided for all volunteers following the completion of projects.
