Volunteer McKinney Center shows you how to get involved in your community.
Halloween at the Heard. Help the Heard Museum celebrate Halloween on Saturday evening, October 22nd. Volunteers will help pass out trick-or-treat candy, help with concessions, serve as greeters, check attendance bands and serve as parking attendants. Two hour shifts are available between 5 and 10 p.m. Click on “Halloween at the Heard” under Updated Listings on the VMC web site for contact information.
Voices Against Violence. Boys and Girls Club of Collin County Family Services is sponsoring an event for supporters and survivors of domestic/family violence on Tuesday evening, October 11. Those attending can learn about free support groups and vast resources. Anyone who has an interest in these issues and how to
support victims is encouraged to attend or to apply to be one of the ten volunteers needed to help make this event a success. For more information, look for “Voices Against Violence” under New Listings on the VMC web site.
It’s not too late. McKinney Make a Difference Day on Saturday, October 22, involves volunteers of all ages working on several projects throughout the community. Among the projects still needing volunteers are the McKinney Family YMCA–help with maintenance and repair of playground equipment and the Heard Natural Science Museum–help with weeding and other gardening tasks. To sign up, go to the VMC web site, click on McKinney Make a Difference Day “View Projects,” browse the list of available projects, and then register.
Lunch is provided for all volunteers following the completion of projects.
