Ways to get involved in your community, thanks to Volunteer McKinney Center:
Dickens of a Christmas. The 31st Annual Dickens of a Christmas in downtown McKinney will welcome thousands of guests on Thanksgiving weekend to enjoy live music, festive food, children’s activities and more. Volunteers are needed to help with set up and tear down, assist with crowd control for Santa, greet visitors,
and help with trash collection. If you would enjoy being a part of this family-friendly event, click on “31st Annual Dickens . . .” under New Listings on the VMC web site.
Bring Nature and People Together. The Heard Natural Science Museum is seeking volunteers to work in the museum nature store greeting guests, assisting with gift sales, passing out information, answering the phone, and organizing the store. If you are at least 18 years old would enjoy indoor work, use keywords “Nature Store” on the VMC web site.
Last Call. These organizations can still use volunteers to help with their McKinney Make a Difference Day projects: Community Lifeline, YMCA and other organizations— make cards to show appreciation; assisted living centers—do craft projects; ManeGait, Heard Museum and Chestnut Square—outdoor maintenance. If you or your group can volunteer on Saturday morning, October 22, go to the VMC web site, click on McKinney Make a Difference Day “View Projects,” and register for the project of your choice.
