Volunteer McKinney Center announces the following opportunities this week:
Balloon Fest. Your participation as a volunteer at the Plano Balloon Fest on Sunday, September 18, will benefit City House, an emergency youth shelter. A variety of shifts and responsibilities are available from early morning until noon. If you volunteer through City House to assist with the half-marathon, 5K, and family fun run, you will receive a 3-day pass to the Balloon Fest, a parking pass for Sunday and a free t-shirt, and City House will receive a very nice donation. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org today to sign up.
Helping Families in Crisis. Community Lifeline Center provides short-term crises support so that families can return to self-sufficiency. The Center is currently in need of a receptionist to greet and provide information to individuals/families, determine eligibility, and assist with preparation and copying of documents. Your friendly voice and caring personality will make a difference in the lives of those dealing with an unexpected circumstance. Look for “Volunteer Receptionist” under New Listings on the VMC web site for additional
Bilingual Instructor. Many Hispanic parents at Webb Elementary have inquired about the opportunity to learn the English language. The class would meet once a week for about an hour during school hours—preferably in the morning. If you are bilingual and would enjoy providing very basic instruction to parents who wish to learn English, look for “ESL Bilingual Instructor” under Updated Listings on the VMC web site.
