The following opportunities are available with Volunteer McKinney:
Executive Director — Volunteer McKinney Center (VMC) strives to match non-profit organizations that need volunteers with volunteers that can help. VMC is currently seeking an executive director to manage administrative, financial and marketing initiatives as well as manage all other agency operations. The executive director reports directly to the VMC Board of Directors and works with the city, service organizations, non-profit agencies, churches, and businesses in our community. Requirements include a bachelor’s degree in a related field, 3or more years of non-profit executive leadership experience, and familiarity with Microsoft Office and Quick Books. Salary is commensurate with experience. For additional details on this position, look for “Executive Director Opening . . .” on the VMC website.
Health Providers — Children and Community Health Center provides free basic healthcare to families and individuals who cannot afford health insurance. New funding is allowing the Center to expand its hours from 24 per week to 40. As a result, both retired and working health providers—physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners–are needed to volunteer for day clinics, Tuesday night children’s clinic, or the Wednesday night adult clinic. For additional information, look for “Doctors, Physician Assistants, and Nurse Practitioners” under Updated Listings on the VMC website.
Pediatric Nurses are also needed for the Tuesday night children’s clinic to assess children, give immunizations, and support other medical providers. Volunteers can work once a month, once every 2 months, or once a week—whatever the volunteer requests. If you have experience as a pediatric nurse, you can make a difference for children in our community. Contact information is available on the VMC web site. Look for “Pediatric Nurse . . .” under Updated Listings.
Volunteer with the Smiles Charity Concert & Family Festival on May 27, 2012:
The Smiles Charity Concert & Family Festival is a FREE concert that Dr. Buchanan hosts on Sunday May 27th (Memorial Day weekend). If you are not familiar, Smiles Charity benefits 100% disabled veterans by raising money, through donations, to build them a complete home. It is life changing for these people and incredibly rewarding.
This year we have Country Star and Grammy Nominee David Nail (Hits include Red Light, and Let It Rain) as well as local teen band Lantic (the boys go to McKinney Boyd and McKinney North High Schools), the flyover, fireworks, kids area, food vendors, a Texas Fallen Soldiers Memorial Wall and more!
This event takes hundreds of volunteers to be successful! All ages are welcome, but under 16 must volunteer with a supervising adult. Get your kids friends, teams etc. and come out as a group, a family, or a single volunteer. Green Cord have been approved and NHS hours available too for high school students.
Every single person helps to make a difference.
Shifts are generally 2 hours long, so they will easily fit into your schedule AND allow you time to enjoy the event. Sign up for multiple jobs if you like, just be sure the times do not overlap.
