Volunteer McKinney offers several opportunities to help your community this week:
• MADD volunteers. MADD’s mission is to stop drunk driving, support victims of drunk driving, and prevent underage drinking. The keys to solving the problem of drunk driving include volunteers who speak to community groups (law enforcement, hospitals, funeral homes, etc.) about MADD’s mission, and volunteers who perform various administrative tasks (directing phone calls, preparing information packets, etc.) to help provide victim services. If you can help MADD with either of these efforts, click on Volunteer Opportunities on the Volunteer McKinney web site, then click on “Community Outreach.”
• Care Calls. Meals on Wheels, an agency that combats isolation and promotes the health, dignity and independence of those 60 years or older, is seeking a Client Liaison to conduct well-check calls to clients once weekly between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Mondays or Fridays. For information about the application and required background check, look for “Care Call Program” on the Volunteer Opportunities page of the Volunteer McKinney web site.
• Meals for Seniors. You can assist the homebound and elderly in our community by helping assemble shelf-stable meals. Volunteers can spend 2 hours having fun on Monday, Tuesday, or Friday and make a huge difference in the lives of local seniors. Children 9 years and older with a chaperone can participate. Just contact the Meals on Wheels office to schedule a time. Use Keywords, “Game On” on the Volunteer McKinney web site for contact information.
