This week’s volunteer opportunities, as provided by Volunteer McKinney Center:
• MADD volunteers. MADD’s mission is to stop drunk driving, support victims of drunk driving, and prevent underage drinking. The keys to solving the problem of drunk driving include volunteers who speak to community groups (law enforcement, hospitals, funeral homes, etc.) about MADD’s mission, and volunteers who perform various administrative tasks (directing phone calls, preparing information packets, etc.) to help
provide victim services. If you can help MADD with either of these efforts, click on Volunteer Opportunities on the VMC web site, then click on “Community Educators” or “Victim Services Assistants.”
• Bike the Bricks. McKinney Main Street will host the third annual Bike the Bricks on Friday evening, May 25, in Historic Downtown McKinney. Volunteers are needed in several areas at this fast paced, high speed, unique event of 500 cyclists and thousands of spectators. You can find additional information and age requirements on the VMC web site, Volunteer Opportunities page. Look under Find an Opportunity by Date and click on “Bike the Bricks.”
• Smiles Charity Concert and Family Festival, a family-friendly free concert and festival, is scheduled for Sunday, May 27 at the Adriatica outdoor concert venue. Several volunteers are needed the day of the event to ensure the safety and fun of all in attendance. Donations at the event will be used to build homes for 2 severely wounded military members. All ages are welcome to volunteer, but those under age 16 must volunteer with a supervising adult. You can find additional information on the VMC web site. Look for “Smiles Charity Concert” under Find an Opportunity by Date.
