Volunteer McKinney Center offers the following opportunities this week:
• Health and Nutrition Education. The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service has scheduled training for volunteers interested in Master Wellness Training. At the completion of training, volunteers work with agency representatives to pay back 40 hours of service by teaching small classes, manning booths at health fairs, testing recipes, helping with a healthy cooking school, etc. The training class will be held on five Tuesdays beginning February 5. Application deadline is January 25. Details are available on the Volunteer McKinney web site. Look for “Master Wellness Volunteer Training” on the Volunteer Opportunities page.
• Encouraging College Youth. International Student Foundation provides support to orphans and foster youth who wish to attend college. Volunteers can provide some of this support by communicating words of encouragement and guidance on a regular basis via social media—email, Twitter, or Facebook. If you feel that you are a good writer and can relate to college students in an upbeat and creative way, learn more about this virtual opportunity by clicking on “Encouraging Youth in College” on the Volunteer Opportunities page.
