Volunteer McKinney Center released its latest opportunities:
•Help Limited English Speakers Improve English Skills. The McKinney Public Library in downtown McKinney offers classes to limited-English speaking adults on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. The eight-week session begins June 7 and runs through July 26, 2012. If you can help these motivated adults learn English, please contact the library. Click on “English as a Second Language Tutor” under New Listings on the VMC web site. These classes also require someone to set up the tables and chairs about 6 p.m. and put them away about 8 p.m. each Tuesday and Thursday during the 8 weeks of this class. For more information on this position, look for “Set up Tables and Chairs” on the VMC web site under New Listings.
•Hospice Team Volunteers. The hospice team at American Hospice is still seeking compassionate people who are willing to share their lives with terminally ill patients and their families. Volunteers can brighten the patients’ day by visiting, reading, painting nails, or sharing a smile or touch. Also, volunteers are needed to assist with general office or bereavement work. Hospice locations include McKinney, Sherman, Gainesville, Denison, Commerce and Bonham. If you are interested in becoming a part of the American Hospice family, contact Tasha Swadley at 972-548-1871 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
