Get involved in your community! Here’s how:
• Kick off the holiday season. The upcoming Believe! 2012 10K & 5K Run, and 1-Mile Walk on November 24, which benefits Head Start children of McKinney, is seeking volunteers. What a wonderful opportunity for energetic families, groups, and individuals to cheer participants. Help with the race from 6 – 11a.m. and then enjoy the festivities of Dickens of a Christmas in the afternoon. For more information, click on “Believe! 2012” on the Volunteer McKinney web site.
• Disaster Action Team. When disaster strikes in Collin County, trained volunteers with the McKinney Branch of the American Red Cross respond with immediate emergency help. ARC provides, at no cost, core training for volunteers as well as additional courses to improve the volunteers’ preparedness. If this opportunity appeals to you and you are available days, evenings, or weekends, additional information can be found in the Volunteer Opportunities section of the Volunteer McKinney web site. Use Keywords, “Disaster Action Team.”
• Medical Center Opportunities. Baylor Medical Center at McKinney provides safe, quality, and compassionate health care. To achieve this, volunteers are needed to assist staff members, deliver mail and flowers, escort patients and visitors, perform general office duties, help at concierge desks, participate in health fairs, provide tours, or serve on committees. Volunteers who have experienced specific medical procedures may participate in Specialty Programs. If you are interested in helping to provide comfort and assistance to patients and their families, use Keyword, “Baylor” on the Volunteer McKinney web site.
