Volunteer McKinney Center offers this week’s volunteer opportunities for you to consider:
Projects at group home. Cornerstone Ranch is a residential group home and day program for adults with special needs. Volunteers are needed for the following projects: begin and maintain an organic garden; dig an irrigation pond; help with construction projects—children’s playground, bike shed, and small bridge; create an
outdoor fitness area for residents; maintain the lawn and landscaping; and help residents learn life skills. This is the perfect opportunity for groups, but individuals are needed, also. If you are interested in enhancing the lives of adults with special needs, you can obtain detailed information on the VMC web site. Click on Volunteer Opportunities, then look under “New Listings.” Remember, your efforts will help these special people find enjoyment and purpose.
Benefit Ride. On August 25, 2012, riders in a motorcycle rally to benefit Children and Community Health Center will depart from Fiat of McKinney and arrive at the YMCA Adventure Camp in Anna. The ride will the followed by a fajita luncheon with special guest, Herschel Walker. Volunteers are needed to help with registration, t-shirt sales, food service, directing vehicles for parking, and clean-up. Hours are 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., but volunteers may work at Fiat in the morning ,at noon at the Adventure Camp, or both. Volunteers are vital to the success of this effort to raise funds to provide medical treatment for the uninsured working poor of northern Collin County. For more information, look for “August 25” under Find an Opportunity by Date on the VMC web site.
