A couple of fantastic opportunities are open, as submitted by Volunteer McKinney Center:
• Preserve McKinney’s History. Chestnut Square Historical Village is located in downtown McKinney and consists of seven homes dating from the late 1800’s to 1900’s to show people how the early settlers of McKinney lived. The Historical Village is also used to teach children the history of these historic homes and ways of life. Volunteers are important to maintain the buildings and make visitors feel welcome. Opportunities
include painting buildings, helping customers at Dixie’s store, performing office duties, caring for a pair of goats, and helping serve guests at teas and luncheons. If you can help in this effort to preserve part of McKinney’s history, go the VMC web site, click on Volunteer Opportunities, then use Keywords, “Chestnut Square” for contact information.
• Hospice Care. Visiting Nurse Association helps terminally ill patients and their families allowing them to live as fully and comfortably as possible. The hospice team includes patient, physician, family and caregiver, registered nurse, social worker, home health aide, chaplain and volunteer. Direct patient care volunteers provide support through friendly visits, caregiver relief, and assistance with errands. If you are interested in joining a VNA hospice team, click on Volunteer Opportunities, then Agencies, and use Keywords, “Visiting Nurse” for additional information
