Volunteer McKinney Center presents three great opportunities to get involved this week.
• Cat Lovers. Volunteers are needed weekly to give attention, love, fresh food and water, and clean the litter box for rescued cats waiting for adoption at PETCO stores. These cats are in the Cat Condos in the store until adopted or, if not adopted within 4 weeks, the cat will go back to its foster parents. If you are interested in spending time with one of these rescued cats, contact the League of Animals Protectors (LAP) by going to the VMC web site and clicking on “Helping Rescued Pets” under Volunteer Opportunities.
• Foster a Pet. The League of Animal Protectors (LAP) matches rescued cats and dogs with temporary foster families. The volunteer families provide a safe, loving environment and transport the rescued animal to/from a local vet (paid by LAP). You can find out more about the guidelines and agreement required to be a foster family on the VMC web site. Look under Volunteer Opportunities and click on “Foster a Pet.”
• Health Providers. Children and Community Health Center provides free basic healthcare to working families and individuals who cannot afford health insurance. New funding is allowing the Center to expand its hours from 24 per week to 40. As a result, pediatric nurses are needed for Tuesday evenings, and physicians and nurses are needed for both day and evening clinics. The increase in clinic hours also requires additional
office volunteers. If you are willing to join a volunteer staff dedicated to helping others, go to the VMC web site and look for details on each of the positions. Choose “More Updated Listings”, then “in the last week.”
