The McKinney Boyd volleyball team lost to Plano Senior in five sets (25-22, 24-26, 25-17, 21-25, 13-15) at Boyd on Tuesday night, losing for the first time at home all season.
Plano controlled much of the first set, leading Boyd 22-20 late in the set. Boyd, however, would battle back and use a strong serve game to win the first set 25-22.
The Lady Broncos totaled 11 aces on the night, and were led by Montana Watts with fives.
The second set saw much of the same from Boyd, including several missed opportunities at the net, with several players over hitting balls and leaving points on the court. Plano stormed out to an 18-10 lead, but Boyd battled back to tie the game at 23-23.
Plano, however, would win the set 26-24.
The third set was the only oneBoyd was able to control, winning 25-17, but Boyd would surrender the game in the fourth set, falling to Plano 25-21 to set up the fifth set.
The Wildcats established a 7-2 lead in the race to 15, but Boyd, as it did all night, found a way to battle back and trail by one at 11-10. Plano would take control of the set, finishing on a 4-3 run to upset Boyd in McKinney.
Boyd compiled 105 digs on the night, and were led by Watts with 32. Parker Shepherd totaled 18 digs and Jordan Kiely and Bingaman led the team with nine kills.
Jill Duffin led Boyd with 11 blocks, while the team compiled 25 blocks.
Head coach Kelly Arbabi was not available for comment following Tuesday’s game.
Boyd will be back on the court Friday when they visit Allen at Allen High School.
