One MISD varsity volleyball team began play Monday night, Aug. 8, on the first day of statewide UIL regular season competition; and all three of them will play — at one site, no less — on Tuesday, Aug. 9.
McKinney North opened the season for all of MISD squads Monday, with the debut of new coach Shannon Alvarado. But the Lady Bulldogs faced a tough opponent in traditional powerhouse Frisco Centennial, which defeated North 3-0. The Titans won each set, 25-12, 25-10, 25-13. The news was better for North’s junior varsity and 9th Grade Blue squads, which defeated Centennial 2-0. North’s 9th Orange squad lost 2-0.
McKinney Boyd will host McKinney High and McKinney North, with a doubleheader beginning at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. It will be the season openers for the Lionettes and Lady Broncos.
The Dallas Morning News this week proclaimed coach Kelly Quinn’s Boyd squad as one of the teams to watch in all of DFW, touting the veteran leadership and talent of senior outside hitter Drew Darling, junior middle blocker Megan Mollett, and libero Kaley Seaber. The Lady Broncos, for the first time, are a varsity squad composed of juniors and seniors.
