With two games remaining in the volleyball regular season, North needed a win Friday night to keep its playoff hopes alive while Boyd was looking for another district championship. The Lady Bulldogs were eliminated with a loss to Wylie and a Wylie East victory, while the Lady Broncos are a win away from claiming the championship in District 10-5A.
The Lady Bulldogs hosted the Wylie Lady Pirates in need of a victory to keep their playoff hopes alive. North took the first and third sets, but fell short in the fifth set for a victory as the Lady Bulldogs lost 3-2. The scores for the match were 25-17, 17-25, 25-23, 22-25, and 9-15.
The loss plus a Wylie East 3-0 win over Greenville officially eliminates North from playoff contention. The Lady Bulldogs dropped to 5-8 in District 13-4A with one game remaining.
Allison Camp led the offense with 17 kills for the Lady Bulldogs, while Kali Viles contributed a strong 13 on the outside as well. Courtney Kankel and Melissa Nichols teamed up in the middle for the team blocks and Lindsey Denne did a great job of running the offense with 37 assists for the evening. Lexey Wilson continued her defensive presence with 19 digs, while Alison Michalak and Kristi Carter both had season personal bests with 14 digs each.
North will conclude its season Tuesday by hosting Sherman at 6:30 p.m.
The Lionettes were defeated by Allen on the road 3-0 to drop to 0-9 in District 10-5A. The scores of the match were 11-25, 18-25, and 19-25.
MHS will conclude its season by hosting McKinney Boyd next Tuesday night. Game time is 7 p.m.
The Lady Broncos defeated Plano East at home 3-0 to improve to 8-1 in District 10-5A. The scores of the match were 25-21, 25-22, and 25-19.
Megan Mollett led the team with 19 kills, while Krista Bukovec added 12 kills of her own. Parker Shepard had 20 assists and Tori Turck had 12 as well. Kelly Koop and Mollett each had two aces.
Boyd will play its regular season finale at MHS on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. A win versus the Lionettes give the Lady Broncos the District 10-5A championship.
