McKinney High and McKinney North participated in the Frisco Tournament at Frisco Wakeland High School Thursday night, and while North dropped both of its games, the Lionettes won both of theirs to continue an impressive start to the volleyball season.
MHS swept the first two games of the Frisco Tournament, defeating Mesquite Poteet in two sets (25-12, 25-19) and Irving MacArthur (25-6, 25-8).
The Lionettes will be back on the court tomorrow as the finish pool play in the tournament.
The Bulldogs lost a couple two tough matches Thursday night, first to Rockwall (25-18, 18-25, 13-25) and then Frisco Centennial (22-25, 19-25).
Senior Abby Middleton stepped up to lead all hitters on the day with 10 kills. She also added one ace and seven digs for the team. Ali Michalak directed the offense with 20 assists and two aces, while also continued her defensive presence for the squad with seven digs.
The Bulldog defense remained strong. It was led by Darby Maclea, as she continued to dominate in the back row with 22 digs Thursday and two aces. Mary Valdez also was a major asset to the team’s defense with six digs and two aces. Kristi Carter remained a steady presence with six digs for the bulldogs.
The Bulldogs will return to action on Friday night as they finish pool play and head into bracket play for the weekend.
