Both McKinney High and McKinney North swept their respective opponents Tuesday night — MHS over Plano East, North over Greenville – while McKinney Boyd fell in five sets to Plano Senior at McKinney Boyd.
The Lady Bulldogs were down in the second set 17-21 and fought hard to overcome the deficit to pull out the win. North won the match 25-15, 25-22, 25-9.
Both Ali Michalak and Lindsey Denne shared the setting responsibilities with each totaling 13 assists. The team combined for 29 kills and Courtney Kankel led with six for the Bulldogs. Mary Valdez was able to score four aces late in the match to lead in the team.
The back line continues to scramble and keep balls off the floor for the offense to transition and score. The team combined for 50 digs on the night. That is a season best average of over 16 digs a set. Darby Maclea continues to dominate in the back row, totaling 17 digs. Other key defensive players were Ali Michalak with 9 digs, Kristi Carter with 7 and Mary Valdez with six.
The Lady Bulldogs will finish the first half of district play this Friday as they travel to Royse City. The first match will begin with Varsity at 5:30pm with both JV/9 to follow.
