District competition started Friday night for MISD volleyball teams, with McKinney High and McKinney Boyd opening with victories. McKinney North started with a loss. Details below:
The McKinney High volleyball program opened district play with a win Friday over Wylie East 3-0. Scores were 25-15, 25-20, 25-22. Leading the way for the Lionettes was sophomore Desiree Parker with 11 kills, four assists, and four digs. Also contributing offensively were Maddy Bennett and Anna Robertson with eight kills each, and Marie O’Dell added seven kills and two solo blocks.
In sub-varsity action, McKinney JV won 2-0 while the 9th A team won 2-0. the 9th B team fell to Coppell 0-2.
All McKinney High teams return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 13, at Rockwall.
McKinney North played its first district game and lost to Rockwall in 4 on Friday, 12-25, 13-25, 25-22, 10-25. Allison Camp lead all hitters with .450 percentage. Taylor McAllister was the kill leader for the evening. Amber Haynes led in digs with 21. The Lady Bulldogs will return to action against Rockwall Heath on Tuesday at North.
The McKinney Boyd Lady Broncs (26-5) won their district opener in exciting fashion in a well fought 3-1 (25-23, 24-26, 25-23, 25-21) victory over the Rowlett Eagles on Friday night. The Lady Broncs combined for 64 kills on the night with a .215 attack percentage. Outside hitters junior Megan Mollett and senior Drew Darling led the team in kills posting 30 and 22 kills, respectively.
Brantlee Reid led the match with 31 assists, followed by senior Brittany Phelan with 19. Defensively Mollett, led in digs with 21, Junior Kaley Seaber notched 17 digs, Darling had 14, and Reid added 12 more. Middles Emma Meyer and Krista Bukovec combined with right sides Ally Cobb and Kelly Koop for 10 blocks on the evening.
McKinney Boyd will now travel to South Garland and Lakeview Centennial this week. The Lady Broncs will play at home next Tuesday, Sept. 20 as they take on North Garland.
