McKinney North is postseason-bound for the first since 2008 following a sweep of Royse City (25-8, 27-25, 25-22) at McKinney North Tuesday night to clinch the third seed in the District 13-4A volleyball standings.
Senior outside hitter Courtney Kankel led North with 11 kills, and senior Melissa Nichols compiled a solid hitting percentage of . 300. Maddie Again, senior outside hitter, had four kills for North and senior Abby Middleton added three kills.
Lindsey Denne set the stage for the Bulldogs, grabbing 18 assists Tuesday night.
The Bulldogs defense was led by senior Darby Maclea with her 15 digs and two aces, while Kristi Carter added four digs.
Solidifying the third sport in 13-4A, North will travel to Emory, Texas Nov. 5 to take on Longview Pine Tree at 6 p.m. in the first round of the playoffs.
The McKinney Boyd varsity volleyball team overpowered its crosstown rivals, McKinney High, in front of a packed house for Senior Night at Boyd, downing the Lionettes in four sets (13-25, 25-19, 25-21, 25-23), increasing their overall record to 31-9 and clinching a spot in the Class 5A UIL state playoffs.
Junior outside hitter Ashleigh Martin dominated the floor with 18 kills and two aces. Senior right side hitter Lauren Petrisin shutdown the Lionette offense with five blocks to go along with senior middle blocker Baylee Bingamin’s three blocks. Sophomore libero Montana Watts scrabbled all over the floor, letting nothing drop with 25 digs.
Senior setters Parker Shepherd and Tori Turck ran the Lady Bronco offense with a combined 64 assists.
Boyd will begin its playoff run next week with the game time and opponent to be determined.
