EMORY —The McKinney North Lady Bulldogs upset Longview Pine Tree in four sets (25-21, 25-23, 17-25, 25-18) Tuesday night at Emory Rains High School in the first round of UIL-4A playoffs. North’s victory was the program’s first Bi-District Championship.
Kali Viles hit an impressive 33 percent for North, while Courtney Kankel led North in kills with 12. Kankel contributed one block, also.
Abby Middleton had another strong performance, killing seven balls, while Melissa Nichols tallied six kills, two blocks and two aces. Emily Greim chipped in three kills and added 1 block.
Darby Maclea was the anchor for North’s defense, gathering 10 digs and serving a team-high five aces. Ali Michalak proved to be a steady leader for the team, getting five key digs for the victory.
North will play Waxahachie, the District 15-4A Champion (37-6, 13-1), in the second round, with the site and date yet to be determined.
