McKinney High’s final test of the non-district season was a volleyball match against visiting Little Elm Tuesday night. Lionettes head coach Ramona Wible expected more of a challenge from the Lady Lobos but instead they came out flat and her team was able to capitalize for a three-game sweep, 25-10, 25-22, 25-23.
“I was surprised. I thought they would be a little more aggressive,” she said. “We’ve been working on defense and it really paid off. Everybody was pretty much on track tonight.”
With the win, MHS was able to finish its non-district schedule with a record of 11-14. Meanwhile, Little Elm slipped to 7-12 on the year.
Leading the way for the Lionettes were Megan Drummond, Erin Hoppe, and Maddi Bennett. Drummond had four kills, eight assists, and four aces. Hoppe contributed four kills, five digs, and two blocks, and Bennett added five kills and two solo blocks.
In sub-varsity action, the McKinney JV defeated Little Elm 25-14, 25-21. Offensively, Madelyn Schober and Tessa Meredith both had four kills. Amy Anderson added ten assists, and Lindsay Smith added ten digs. The 9th A team won a hard fought game against the Lobos by winning 2-1. Scores were 24-26, 25-21, 25-21. The 9th B team also added a win by defeating Little Elm 25-19, 25-14.
