The Wylie East varsity football team improved to 4-0 on the season Friday night as they held McKinney North without a touchdown in the second half to take a 35-31 victory.
The Bulldogs (2-2) lost their District 10-4A opener after having won two straight games in previous weeks.
North led 28-21 at halftime in the contest at Wylie Stadium. That’s because running back Trey Smith and his blockers found success. Smith scored three first-half touchdowns on carries of 25, 37 and 2 yards. Anthony Lozoya also scored on a 2-yard run for North.
But Wylie East’s defense stepped up in the second half. The lone points for the Bulldogs came on Eric Nickason’s 20-yard field goal when the offense couldn’t quite punch it in from inside the 5-yard-line. That proved to be costly, because Wylie East had one more rally in them. Kevon Mack scored on a 5-yard TD run to finish the scoring.
