UIL Swimming & Diving Championships: MHS’ Hashbarger Wins 100 Freestyle

McKinney High sophomore Sammie Hashbarger won the Girls 4A 100 freestyle at the state meet for the second year in a row Saturday.

Hashbarger, competing in Austin at the UIL Swimming and Diving Championships along with the other regional qualifiers, swam the 100 in 51.55, barely outdistancing second-place Amanda Wu of Cedar Park, who finished in 51.65. In third place was Mackenzie Childs of Magnolia, who finished in 51.89.

Impressively, Hashbarger also won this event as a freshman in 2011.

In addition, Hashbarger finished third in the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.90. The winner was Raena Eldridge of Rockwall, who finished in 23.69. In second was Kate Boyer of Highland Park, who finished in 23.75.
