As part of the ongoing TxDOT project to widen U.S. 75 from the Sam Rayburn Tollway (SRT) to White Avenue in McKinney, TxDOT has informed the City of the following traffic switch:
U.S. 75 Main Lane Traffic Switch Starting Tonight, April 30, at 8 p.m. from South of Eldorado Parkway to South of Virginia Parkway
Weather permitting, TxDOT will switch U.S. 75 northbound and southbound main lane traffic to newly constructed concrete pavement in McKinney starting Thursday, April 30, and continuing into early next week. At 8 p.m., TxDOT will divert all northbound main lane traffic to the frontage road using the Eldorado Parkway exit ramp. Northbound drivers will then continue on the frontage road through the intersections at Virginia Parkway, White Avenue, and U.S. 380 before reaching the northbound entrance ramp near Wilmeth Road. At 5 a.m. tomorrow morning, northbound traffic will be re-directed back to the main lanes on new, concrete pavement from south of Eldorado Parkway to south of Virginia Parkway.
TxDOT will continue working on the traffic switch over the weekend. The primary task will be to move temporary, concrete barricades creating a safe separation between opposing main lanes of traffic. The southbound main lanes will not be switched over until this process is complete. Early next week, the southbound main lanes will be diverted to the new, concrete pavement. This will open up large work areas on the southbound side of the highway, which is necessary for work to continue.
When the traffic switch is complete, the new northbound exit ramp to Virginia Parkway will be open near the Community Center, and the new southbound exit ramp to Eldorado Parkway will be open near North Brook Drive. Drivers should expect delays overnight tonight and over the weekend and seek alternate routes, if possible.
As a reminder, this TxDOT construction project to widen U.S. 75 from the SRT to White Avenue in McKinney to four main lanes in each direction and three frontage road lanes in each direction will provide much needed extra capacity through McKinney. The project is anticipated to be complete in January 2016.
Please be safe when traveling through the work zone and always observe traffic warning signs. If you have any questions, please contact Danny Still at (972) 547-7631 or firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you for your cooperation.
