You could call the McKinney North tennis program the definition of consistent success, and 2012 proved to be another dominant year for head coach Jon Stein and his tennis players.
Senior Jordan Hart, regarded as one of the state’s top players, won the school’s first regional tennis gold back on April 17, and then proceeded to win the boys singles state championship in Austin, Tex. on May 1.
Hart rallied to defeat Austin Mayo of Austin Lake Travis, 5-7, 7-6 (7-1), 6-1, in the championship match.
In the fall during team tennis play, North upset No. 1 seed Lovejoy in the District 13-4A finals to win the program’s eighth team tennis district title.
The team finished 20-5 during the fall and was ranked No. 11 in the state before losing in the regional tournament the following week.
