There was only one game this football season between MISD schools, with McKinney High and McKinney Boyd doing battle in a District 10-5A matchup in the final week of the season.
MHS was 5-4 on the season and would be in a prime position to wrap up a playoff berth with a victory, while Boyd was in the postseason with a win without any help from the other district teams. The anticipation was intense, with both fan bases taking to social media to create enormous buzz leading up to the Nov. 10 game.
However, Driskell and the Boyd offense proved too much for the Lions, as the “Red Nation” defeated “Lion Nation” 56-21 to wrap up a playoff spot and eliminate the Lions from postseason contention.
While Boyd’s playoff berth was the big news of the night, Driskell’s record-setting night stole the headlines as the senior running back ran for 333 yards on 35 carries, including a school record seven touchdowns. He fell just nine yards short of breaking the all-time school record for most rushing yards in a game, a record set by Daryn Alves in 2007.
Also on the night, Driskell surpassed 5,000 rushing yards in his career and recorded his 60th career rushing touchdown.
