TSB’s Top News Stories of 2013: Ice Storm Paralyzes McKinney (No. 4)

Not since 1998 had McKinney seen cold in December like this … and ice.

TSB photographer Sawyer Erickson put his camera, and his creative eye, to work in the aftermath of the ice storm of 2013, capturing the stark beauty of the ice and snow left behind by the Mother Nature’s fury.

The storm, which hit North Texas on Thursday, Dec. 5, left thousands without power over the month’s first weekend, forced schools to cancel classes and holiday events and activities to be postponed. Shelves on many of McKinney’s grocery stores are bare as trucks are unable to deliver supplies.

Driving remained hazardous as roadways continued to be covered with a thick layer of ice.
