For 11 straight weeks, ending in May, the TownSquareBuzz.com hosted community-wide watch parties to celebrate our hometown hero, Hollie Cavanagh. She was the little engine that could, climbing all the way to the Top 4 on the popular Fox Television music show American Idol.
McKinney watched Hollie blossom as a singer and performer, gaining confidence along the way. She tried out and nearly made it to the live shows in 2011 in a memorable rejection conversation that showed Hollie in tears.
Boy, did she bounce back in 2012. We are so proud of Hollie, a McKinney Boyd graduate, and wish her continued success in the music arena. We know she’ll do just fine.
–TSB Entertainment Editor Michelle Stevens Bernard sat down with Hollie during a return home to visit McKinney during the show. For that one-on-one interview, please click here.
–When Hollie qualified for the show’s top 10 finalists, it meant she’d be going on their summery tour, a landmark moment. Click here for TSB Editor Steve Kirk’s story.
–And when she qualified for the Top 4 but watched her roommate Skylar Laine go home instead, it was bittersweet. That story is here.
After it all ended, Luke Cavanagh, who is Hollie’s older brother and a TSB contributor, wrote a wonderful piece about what it’s like to watch your baby sister on the national television spotlight. Read and enjoy by clicking here.
