The sum total of my years can almost equally be divided into two geographical locations, Texas and New York. (I’m cheating a little because my time in New York was technically NY and Connecticut.) In that time I have met and befriended an awful lot of people and through the years many have relocated and most started families. I have lifelong friends I have not even seen in over 30 years but we still stay in touch!
In this era of the Internet and Facebook it is easy to take for granted the immediacy of how our friends can share their life events. Every week someone is posting pictures from weddings, births, anniversaries or reunions and we are rewarded with the instant gratification of connecting to our past.
It wasn’t that long ago that the United States Postal Service was fiscally more stable simply due to the huge volume of holiday cards mailed each year. Those I looked forward to the most included pictures of friends and their families, especially the kids. It is unlikely anyone expected me to dash down to the store to frame the latest photo of their progeny but it sure was fun to collect the pictures I received. (I have no doubt those on my mailing list equally enjoyed the pictures I shared in return as well!)
So, although I too am guilty of saving the money on stamps, I am pleased to share a recent photo of my own kids. I only hope it will be MANY MANY years until they do the same!
Happy Holidays TSB readers!
