Most kids enjoy receiving gifts at my age. But my best Christmas memory is one that can’t be topped by any gift I could possibly receive.
When I was 10, my family flew up to Connecticut to surprise our entire family for Christmas. We rarely went up there for the holidays since it was such a long trip, but we knew this year would be special if we did. Since we are the only family to ever move out of Connecticut, we got to surprise everyone.
When we walked in the door at my grandparents’ house, the glowing faces and hollers of joy were all I needed to know that this surprise was one I would never forget. Not only was being with my family on Christmas day a great part of it, but I also got a white Christmas that day … something Texas never gets.
When I look back at all my holiday seasons of writing Santa letters about what I want, none of the toys I received will ever rack up to seeing my family’s faces the day we made the best Christmas surpise I could ever give.
