Day 3 Advent Activity: Consider the Empty Box
Have you ever really stopped to consider the true definition of the word gift? A gift is something, a talent or a treasure, given without the expectation of receiving anything in return. How in the world did we as a society get so carried away with this simple act of kindness, that we are now reading stories about stampedes at shopping malls and people getting pepper sprayed on the X-Box aisle?
As you consider the empty box, think about how you want to fill it, really want to fill it this year. What have you been gifted with? Do you have a talent you can share with your loved ones or your community? Do you have a treasure, something you hold dear, that you are willing to part with in order to brighten another’s day, or improve their condition?
Today, give each member of your family an empty box. Laundry baskets work well too. Ask them to go through their things, their closets, their rooms, and fill the empty box with items they would like to donate to charity.
