Day 1 Advent Activity: Make an Advent Calendar
An Advent Calendar is a special calendar used to mark the time leading up to Christmas. In Western Christian tradition, the season of Advent begins four Sundays prior to December 25th. Commercially, this time of preparation begins December 1st.
The tradition of keeping an Advent calendar can be traced back to 19th century German Lutherans with the first printed calendar hitting the scene as early as 1902. Today, most calendars cater to kids, but here at TSB, we think kids of all ages should get in on the fun.
Oh sure, it’s easy enough to run out and purchase an Advent calendar, but why miss the opportunity to come up with a unique way to count down the days? All you need is a little imagination, a handful of treats, and the ability to count to 25. Have fun!
This Week’s Buzz Word: Hope
What do you hope for yourself and your family as you prepare for the holidays? Write down your thoughts and feelings in an Advent journal, or discuss as a family over dinner, or while creating your Advent calendar.
