Ryan Whan, Gerson Mendoza and Mary Watson recently signed to play soccer at the college level.
Last Wednesday, two of the MISD standouts signed:
Whan, McKinney High’s goalkeeper, signed with Centenary College in Louisiana, an undergraduate liberal arts college in Shreveport. Whan was named Goalkeeper of the Year in District 10-5A by the coaches, and was also recognized for honorable mention in the Texas Association of Soccer Coaches All-State Team. Whan helped lead the Lions’ defense that allowed just 13 goals all season.
Mendoza, who was Whan’s teammate, stayed local and signed with Dallas Baptist University. Mendoza, the Lions captain and midfielder, earned First Team All-District honors and was TASC First-Team All-Region as well. Mendoza was part of the midfield trio for the Lions along with Mikey Swim and Tom Navarette.
Watson of McKinney North signed her letter of intent to play at the Florida Institute of Technology on April 30. Watson received First Team All-District honors in 17-4A. She was a part of the Bulldog defense that allowed just 10 goals and produced 12 shutouts last season.
